Emma Ranz

What is your hometown?

Bellingham, Washington

What is your position in the company?

Sustainability Engineer

How would you describe your job to a child?

I have been hired to evaluate the entire company and how we make our products and operate the business to make sure that we are using the best environmental practices.  We are going to set some environmental goals and put in solutions to reach those in the next couple of years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really like that this job allows me to mix my personal passion for being eco friendly with my engineering degree and past experience with equipment. So I think it’s a really good mix of my personal beliefs and my career experience so far. So that’s pretty cool.

Is there anything exciting that you are currently working on?

Yeah we’re getting ready to roll out the big presentation that’s kind of the overview of how Macro views sustainability and how we’re going to approach our sustainability program.  And then after that we’re going to be having some workshops which allow all of Macro’s personnel to get involved in the discussion and get some feedback on what everybody thinks are some good ideas we can do.  So I think that’ll be really cool to see everyone’s opinions and then go from there.

What was your first job?

I was an import/export data analyst at a company called Belcan Engineering and I worked for a [client]… the client was a helicopter manufacturer, so I evaluated whether their documents were protected under import/export laws.

Do you have any hobbies?

I like to garden and I like to draw things and my husband and I spend all of our free time renovating our house which is fun.

What was the best concert you ever attended?

Anything at the Gorge!

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Do you have a favorite sport or team?

UK Wildcats and UK basketball. Hockey would be my favorite but we’re not very good at that so..

If you were stuck on an island, who’s the one person you would want there?

I would bring my husband, Ezra. I need him to survive! He would be the one building us shelter and finding us food.  He grew up in the middle of nowhere on a farm so he would be really good at helping us stay alive.
